Associate Director of Libraries Named

  Associate Director of Libraries Named Thursday, October 8, 1998

 Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki, O.S.B., has announced the appointment of Brother David Kelly, O.S.B. as the associate director of Saint Vincent Libraries. The appointment was effective on August 17, 1998.

Brother David is a Pittsburgh native. He attended Resurrection Parochial School and graduated from South Hills Catholic High School in 1964. He attended LaSalle College, Philadelphia, and received a bachelor of science degree in English from St. Joseph College, Philadelphia in 1969. He received a master of arts degree in religious studies at Providence College in 1970 and a master of arts degree in political science from Georgetown University in 1984. He received a baccalaureate degree in canon law from St. Paul University, Ottawa in 1993, a bachelor of canon law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1993, a licentiate in canon law from St. Paul University, Ottawa, in 1994, and a master of canon law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1994.

Brother David made his simple profession of monastic vows on July 10, 1973, and his solemn profession of vows on July 11, 1976.

At Saint Vincent College he has served as a lecturer in the Religious Studies Department (1974), as director of Religious Education (1975) and as an instructor in religious studies (1974-1978), and in political science (1984-1992). He was named to the Archabbey Human Resources Council in 1988 and is chairman of the Subcommittee on Career Orientation and Professional Training. He served as assistant director of the Opportunity Program at Saint Vincent College (1984-1986) and then director of the program (1988-1992). Brother David served as president of the Faculty Council (1990-1992), a member of the Monastery Human Resources Council (1989-1992), and was elected a member of the Archabbey Council of Seniors in 1989. He served as subprior at Saint Vincent Archabbey (1994-1998), and is administrative assistant to the Archabbot.

He received the Student Government Association Faculty Award in 1978.

He is a son of the late James J. Kelly and the late Gladys S. Kelly. His brothers are George S. Kelly of Detroit, Michigan and James J. Kelly, Jr., of Los Angeles, California.
