Saint Anthony Mary Claret, Bishop, Religious Founder
Beginning on October 24, 1846, the date usually placed as the foundation of Saint Vincent Archabbey, Seminary, and College, Wimmer and his young companions began to pray the Divine Office of the Church. Daily they began with, “Deus in adjutorium meum intende; Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina.” These time-honored words had begun the day for Christians for over eighteen centuries in the western Church. At this time, they began the day, everyday, at the first Benedictine monastery in the United States. (Rev. Brian Boosel, O.S.B., master's thesis, Slippery Rock University)
