Artisans of the Monastery Show October 22 to November 6 at Saint Vincent Gristmill

 Saint Vincent Gristmill Museum, Beatty Road, Unity Township, will host an exhibit, “Artisans of the Monastery,” October 22 through November 6. The show will feature multimedia art by monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gristmill Museum. The reception will include various breads and sweets baked by Fr. Ananias Buccione, O.S.B. both for sampling and for sale. Following the opening reception, the show will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday during regular Gristmill General Store hours.

The exhibit will feature a variety of artwork including painting, stained glass, hand weaving, fabric art, calligraphy, and bookbinding. Among those participating are Fr. Philip Kanfush, O.S.B., Fr. Sebastian Samay, O.S.B, Fr. Thomas More Sikora, O.S.B., Br. Mark Floreanini, O.S.B., Fr. Michael Gabler, O.S.B., Br. Michael Antonacci, O.S.B., and Br. Albert Gahr, O.S.B.

Their pieces, along with others by monks of Saint Vincent Monastery, will be on display. Some items will be for sale.

Fr. Philip Kanfush, O.S.B. is Chief Financial Officer of the Archabbey and is a member of the Education Department faculty. He is the author of two books, Renewed Each Morning and Emma's Wetlands Adventure. He is from Center Township.

Fr. Sebastian Samay served the Benedictine community as Master of Novices for many years. Born in Pécöl, Hungary, he has served as Saint Vincent College faculty member and is an experienced weaver.

Fr. Ananias Buccione, O.S.B., of East Vandergrift, Pa., is Pastor of Queen of the World Parish in Patton, Pa. He is an experienced baker and is known by many for his breads and baked sweet products.

Fr. Thomas More Sikora, O.S.B., of Avonmore, a weaver, is Assistant Director of the Saint Vincent Gristmill and Gristmill General Store.

Br. Mark Floreanini, O.S.B., is from Alliance, Ohio. He earned a master of fine arts degree from the Savannah College of Arts and Designs, and was appointed to the Saint Vincent College faculty in 2005. He works in a variety of mediums, but primarily is known for his work in stained glass.

Fr. Michael Gabler, O.S.B. of Saint Marys, Pa., served as building manager of the Gristmill (2004 -2008). He will be exhibiting his work with the medium of painting.

Br. Michael Antonacci, O.S.B., of Jeanette is assistant miller at the Saint Vincent Gristmill, a teaching assistant for the Saint Vincent College Physics Department and a 2007 graduate of Saint Vincent College. He works in a variety of mediums including weaving, calligraphy and bookbinding.

Br. Albert Gahr,O.S.B., of Kersey, is an alumnus of Saint Vincent College. He also holds a doctorate in genetics and developmental biology from West Virginia University and presently works in the Biology Department of Saint Vincent College. He will be exhibiting weavings.
